St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, a 475‑bed acute care center, needed a secure, reliable way to send critical messages to clinicians on smartphones and tablets and to let physicians acknowledge and respond from those devices. The hospital also wanted tighter integration with its Cisco phone system and on‑call scheduling tools to reduce time spent tracking down staff and improve communication accuracy.

St. Michael’s implemented Spok Mobile plus Spok operator consoles and web directory to send encrypted messages to iPhones, BlackBerries and iPads, initiate pages and code calls, manage on‑call schedules, and provide an audit trail. The integrated solution reduced time spent locating staff, streamlined facility‑wide communications, and supported the hospital’s goal of deploying smartphones to 250 clinicians.
