Sentara Healthcare, which operates 12 acute care hospitals and more than 100 care sites across Virginia and North Carolina, needed a way to maintain business continuity and ensure consistent, rapid responses to codes and other emergent events across its large, distributed system.

Sentara implemented Spok wide-area paging along with Spok Care Connect for its operator console and web directory and Spok Mobile for secure smartphone messaging, sending over 375,000 messages monthly. The solution streamlined code calls, provided a reliable backup where cell and Wi‑Fi coverage can fail, and improved preparedness as part of broader continuity plans including backup servers, generators, and emergency phones.
