Regina Qu’appelle Health Region - Customer Case Study

Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region’s Regional Communications Centre in Saskatchewan handles roughly 150,000 service requests a year—including more than 42,000 emergency calls—and from a four-person team coordinates 40 ambulance services, 76 fire departments and 80 first responder teams across 130+ communities. Faced with rising call volumes and new communications channels (cell phones, internet) in 2006, leaders worried they might have to scale back services unless they found a way to improve efficiency.

They implemented Spok e.Notify to automate multi-channel alerts (pagers, landlines, VoIP, cellular, text, email and PA) with two-way confirmations and automatic escalations. Activation time fell from 5–10 minutes to about 40 seconds, 9-1-1 answers within 60 seconds rose from 80% to 91%, and rural providers gained reliable modern communications—preserving service levels despite growing demand and unchanged staffing.
