A Spok Case Study
Kosair Children's Hospital (Norton Healthcare) in Louisville is a 271‑bed pediatric facility that needed to speed the sharing of important patient updates and make emergency responses more reliable across a mobile care team (about 250 smartphones). Coordinating the pediatric Code 300 response had been largely manual and prone to delay and error, and the hospital sought a way to strengthen routine mobile communications for visitor alerts, department info, and census updates.
The hospital implemented Spok Messenger clinical alerting integrated with the GE Telligence nurse call system, Cisco wireless IP phones, and staff smartphones; wall units with code buttons tied to the nurse call trigger Spok to send alerts directly to response-team phones. The integrated solution delivered consistent, faster notifications, improved staff coordination and efficiency, and had a measurable positive impact on patient care and emergency response.
