Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center - Customer Case Study

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a 473‑bed teaching hospital in Manhattan, faced a critical communications challenge after routine checks revealed some pages had been intercepted. With patient health information (PHI) and time‑sensitive clinical alerts at stake—and lessons learned from 9/11 about cell‑network vulnerabilities—the team needed a secure, reliable way to reach clinicians.

MSK implemented 2,800+ Spok® T5 encrypted wide‑area pagers and a Spok Care Connect® platform (including an operator console that sends 500,000 pages a year, web directory, on‑call scheduling, and emergency notification), plus onsite paging for codes. The encrypted paging protects PHI so clinicians can send critical results confidently, and the combined systems ensure dependable communications during routine care and emergencies.
