Indiana University - Customer Case Study

Indiana University Health’s Emergency Management team, which coordinates urgent communications across three downtown Indianapolis hospitals, needed a faster, more reliable way to reach the right people for events like severe weather alerts, system outages, patient transfers and frequent fire drills. The manual phone-call process was time-consuming and inefficient—fire drill notifications alone required about 15 minutes of calls per drill and contributed to a large quarterly workload—while management also wanted an auditable record of who was contacted and when.

IU Health implemented Spok e.Notify, automating one- and two-way messaging to tiered groups and integrating with existing Spok solutions and their Cisco PBX. The system delivers messages to phones, pagers, smartphones and email, provides tracking/audit trails and escalates to secondary devices if needed, enabling faster executive coordination and campus notifications; it cut time spent on fire drills from roughly 30 hours per year to one or two hours and improved overall notification efficiency.
