A Spok Case Study
Greenslopes Private Hospital, Australia’s largest private teaching hospital with 575 beds, faced a communications challenge: dozens of clinical alert and alarm systems and a highly mobile workforce made it difficult to ensure timely, accurate delivery of hundreds of critical messages each day (code pages, duress, telemetry alerts and more). The hospital needed a reliable solution that would integrate with key systems — including the nurse call, Rauland duress, and Philips telemetry systems — and deliver the right alert to the right caregiver on the right device.
Greenslopes implemented Spok Messenger, middleware that integrates with multiple alert systems to route notifications to staff pagers, mobile phones, and email. The deployment provided seamless integration with existing systems, faster caregiver response (Code Blue, MET and duress alerts), reduced dependence on stationary monitoring stations, message archiving for QA, and overall improved caregiver efficiency; the hospital is also evaluating Spok’s operator console to extend functionality.
