A Spok Case Study
Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) is the sole hospital system for the island nation of Bermuda—a 324‑bed facility serving more than 65,000 residents (and hundreds of thousands of annual visitors) in a hurricane‑prone region. BHB relied on multiple outdated, manual systems that could take up to three hours to reach clinical staff and required time‑intensive call‑logging, so the organization sought a single, device‑agnostic platform to deliver fast, reliable, and consistent communications across the enterprise.
BHB implemented the Spok Care Connect platform (web directory, emergency notification, speech recognition, and secure messaging) to enable BYOD, automated call trees, and centralized logging. The results: mass notification time dropped by 83%, Code Blue response time fell by 50%, disaster response fell from about 150 minutes to under 30, and the hospital reduced the number of systems needed—freeing staff to focus on patient care and helping earn international recognition for workplace excellence.
