Case Study: Data4City improves safety on school and leisure routes with Spectos GmbH’s PinCity solution

A Spectos GmbH Case Study

Preview of the Data4City Case Study

Data4city in Use for Safe School and Leisure Routes

Data4City, a public-services company based in Dresden, wanted to improve the safety of school and leisure routes for children. The challenge was to gather enough precise, on-the-ground information about hazards, access points, and route conditions without relying on time-consuming paper-based surveys and manual digitization. Spectos GmbH supported the project with the PinCity app and Data4City cockpit to collect digital location-based feedback directly from parents, students, and other local stakeholders.

With Spectos GmbH’s solution, users could mark exact locations on a map, add photos, comments, and descriptions, and provide details such as walking or cycling routes, visibility, lighting, and traffic levels. The Data4City cockpit then helped manage, moderate, and automatically process the collected data, combining it with existing official records for use in school route planning and other administrative work. The case study reports that this created a high-detail digital data foundation, eliminated costly digitization steps, and improved acceptance of safety measures, though no specific quantitative impact was given.
