SNCF migrates 90% of applications to the cloud with Sopra Steria

SNCF, a major railway company, faced the challenge of modernizing its extensive and costly IT infrastructure, which included four data centers and hundreds of machine rooms. Their goal was to consolidate this infrastructure, improve its carbon footprint, and achieve significant annual savings by migrating 90% of its applications to the cloud. To support this digital transformation, SNCF enlisted the vendor Sopra Steria.

Sopra Steria implemented a Cloud Migration Factory to manage the large-scale, industrial migration and modernization of SNCF's applications. The solution involved defining cloud architectures, optimizing migration scenarios, and implementing Agile, DevOps, and FinOps practices. As a result, Sopra Steria enabled faster application deployments, improved scalability, and enhanced security while reducing technical debt. The project consolidated data centers and is expected to generate savings of tens of millions of euros per year for SNCF.
