Norwegian Police Service speeds fingerprint searches with Sopra Steria

The Norwegian Police Service sought to modernize its outdated fingerprint identification system. Their challenge was to implement a new automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) that could deliver faster and more accurate searches through simplified and automated processes. To address this, they partnered with the vendor Sopra Steria.

Sopra Steria developed a solution based on open technology, including .Net and an open database (MSSQL). This system automated fingerprint transmission, identification, and facial recognition while seamlessly integrating with the police service's other systems. The results included an intuitive user interface, better search algorithms with much faster search times, and an agile solution ready for easy integration with new services. Sopra Steria's work provided the Norwegian Police Service with advanced biometric capabilities to boost its fight against crime.
