Case Study: Vivino achieves faster global growth and increased app downloads with Smartling

A Smartling Case Study

Preview of the Vivino Case Study

Vivino Engages Wine-loving App Users Around the World by Offering French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese Content as Standard

Vivino, founded in Copenhagen in 2010, is a mobile and web app that helps everyday wine consumers discover, track and share wines and today serves over 15 million users from offices in Copenhagen and San Francisco. By early 2014 localization became critical to engaging its global community, but Vivino had no translation process in place and needed a fast, scalable way to offer content in multiple languages.

Vivino partnered with Smartling and used its Global Fluency Platform and API to integrate translations across iOS, Android and web, combining professional, machine and community translation. The rollout into core languages (including French, German, Italian, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese) sped up launches, reduced translation costs and management time (now handled by one person), and drove measurable growth—more downloads, a feature on French TV and accelerated uptake in Brazil.
