Ondot Systems, a San Jose–based start-up with about 50 employees and a 40‑person engineering team split between the US and India, builds a mobile card services platform that shows real-time card activity and notifications. Under investor pressure to ship quickly, the team relied on informal, ad-hoc “over‑the‑shoulder” reviews that were time-consuming, inconsistent, hard to track across time zones, and prone to errors—creating a need for an automated, auditable code‑review process that would enforce reviews before check‑ins and reduce review project management overhead.

Ondot deployed SmartBear Collaborator across roughly 30 engineers (integrated with SVN, Bash, Java, and C++ workflows), creating a hard gate that blocks check‑ins until reviews are complete and enabling clear traceability and review metrics. The tool streamlined distributed reviews, increased adoption of code‑review best practices, helped catch bugs earlier (reducing costly fixes), and provided metrics to coach junior developers—ultimately accelerating time to market and improving overall code quality.
