Adobe Systems faced significant performance issues after the Flash MX 2004 release that prompted a compressed, nine‑month "dot" release to address memory and UI problems in Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8. With only one developer and one QA engineer assigned and limited budget for additional tools, the team evaluated automation options and trialed/bought AutomatedQA’s TestComplete to accelerate testing.
Using TestComplete the team automated repeated tasks—application startup, test movie, publish movie and UI manipulation—to gather samples of memory, page faults, USER and GDI objects and to track leaks over time. The tool proved instrumental in exposing memory leaks and improving repeatable testing; it was cost‑effective, had responsive support, and highlighted process lessons (matching test/dev environments and keeping automation scripts simple and well coded).
