AppGuard by Blue Ridge Leverages SmartBear Expertise to Validate Scalability to Support Millions of Concurrent Users

Blue Ridge Networks, maker of AppGuard® next-generation endpoint protection, needed to prove that its back-end infrastructure could support AOL’s planned distribution of AOL Tech Fortress powered by AppGuard. The challenge was to simulate millions of concurrent users for license activations, downloads and updates, determine whether to scale up or scale out, validate HTTPS/SSL offload and load distribution, and complete testing quickly with minimal internal resource investment.

SmartBear’s professional services used ReadyAPI Test and ReadyAPI Performance to build, run and analyze realistic load tests (distributing functional tests across cloud VMs to simulate roughly one million concurrent license checks). Tests showed Blue Ridge’s system could handle 25 million new users per hour and 80 million user/configuration updates per hour—and scale to about 100 million new users and 400 million updates per hour. Clear reports enabled precise tuning (adding vCPUs on the fly and bringing warm standby servers online), reduced go-live risk and met the aggressive launch timeline.
