Statoil Evaluates Cement Placement and Bond in Casing Diameters from 133/8 to 20

SLB worked with Statoil to evaluate cement placed behind casing in a well on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, where casing sizes ranged from 13 3/8 to 20 in. Statoil needed to meet the NORSOK D-010 standard by obtaining two independent cement bond measurements across the well barriers, while also assessing casing integrity. SLB used its PowerEcho annular barrier evaluation service alongside a cement bond log (CBL) and Variable Density log (VDL).

By running the PowerEcho service in the same toolstring as the CBL-VDL, SLB provided complementary independent measurements of cement placement and bond without requiring an additional descent in the well. The solution confirmed cement placement behavior and top of cement in casing up to 20 in, while simultaneously evaluating casing integrity, helping Statoil satisfy regulatory requirements efficiently.
