MaxTRAC Tractor Navigates Restriction for Production Logging a Highly Deviated Well

Statoil asked SLB to help quantify the inflow profile and gas contribution in a highly deviated offshore Norway oil producer well. The well had gas entry points inside a restricted inflow control device (ICD) straddle completion, making conventional production logging risky because the reduced diameter increased upward forces on the toolstring.

SLB used the MaxTRAC tractor with the PS Platform production logging toolstring, anchoring it in the larger-diameter screen section below the ICD so logging could continue safely inside the restricted interval. The team collected real-time flow data through InterACT and monitored tool forces while logging at multiple flow rates, successfully diagnosing the gas entry points and reducing the risk of the tools being blown out of the well.
