Advanced Testing and Completion Fluid Development Improve Operational Safety and Well Performance

Statoil worked with SLB to improve the safety and efficiency of perforating operations in long horizontal North Sea wells without sacrificing well performance. The challenge was to avoid the low productivity that can come from conventional overbalanced shoot-and-pull perforating with standard completion fluids.

SLB designed a customized completion fluid and a dynamic underbalanced perforating plan, then validated the approach in the PERF laboratory before field deployment. After using the proven technique in several wells, Statoil achieved improved productivity and excellent well performance, while also benefiting from a safer, more cost-effective completions program.
