Onfido, a mid-size digital ID and biometrics company with about 600 employees across eight countries, struggled with an underperforming internal newsletter, Newsfido. Launched in 2018 to keep distributed teams informed, by 2020 it had become text-heavy, visually cluttered and time-consuming to produce (about seven hours weekly), with low open and click rates and an inflexible, insecure email vendor that blocked meaningful redesigns.
The communications team rebuilt Newsfido as a Slack-native newsletter using Block Kit and a two-edition format (Monday highlights, Thursday wrap-up) in a read-only channel. That pivot cut production time to roughly three hours, boosted readership from 30% to 75%, improved engagement and accessibility across time zones, eliminated vendor constraints and delivered a clearer, more snackable employee experience.
