Case Study: South American Airport achieves safer, more secure passenger flow and COVID-19 risk detection with SITA border solutions

A SITA Case Study

Preview of the South American Airport Case Study

Working through the pandemic Border solutions deliver results in times of crisis

South American Airport, which has used SITA's border solutions since 2018 to manage safe and secure passenger flows, faced a new challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic: detect and identify travellers who could pose health risks and rapidly implement screening, self‑isolation and contact measures based on evolving WHO guidance. The airport needed a flexible, fast way to flag arrivals from high‑risk areas and manage potential cases at scale.

SITA worked side‑by‑side with the airport to configure its border solution and train staff to set up dynamic rules that highlighted WHO‑designated high‑risk countries, notify travellers to self‑isolate for 14 days, and—if a passenger tested positive—identify those seated nearby for targeted follow‑up. By enabling these processes, SITA helped the South American Airport quickly operationalize health screening and contact‑tracing workflows, improving its ability to manage potential COVID‑19 cases and reduce the risk of onward transmission.
