Preview of the Wingo Case Study

Wingo LCC Takes Off In Record Time

Wingo, the low‑cost carrier launched by Copa Holdings in late 2016, needed managed, secure IP connectivity to support check‑in, departure control and back‑office systems on an aggressive three‑month timeline that other providers would not commit to. Copa turned to SITA and its CorporateConnect@Airports service (part of the SITA Connect portfolio and delivered via the AirportHub shared connectivity platform) to meet the time‑sensitive, operationally confidential requirement.

SITA implemented CorporateConnect@Airports connections at seven domestic and international airports, integrated Radixx departure‑control, installed CUTE equipment and completed pilot testing, delivering the full solution in six weeks. The result: Wingo launched on schedule on 1 December 2016 with a Bogotá–Cancún flight, the service proved “rock solid,” Copa began capitalizing the subsidiary on time, Wingo captured about 2% seat‑capacity share in Colombia and Panama, and Copa is now exploring wider SITA connectivity deployments.
