A SITA Case Study
Vistara, the Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines joint-venture that launched in January 2015, needed a cost‑efficient, cloud‑based communications and network platform to support rapid expansion in the fast‑growing Indian aviation market. The airline appointed SITA (with SITAONAIR) to deliver aircraft communications, airline operations and connectivity services, including SITA’s Type B Messaging, AIRCOM® FlightMessenger, AIRCOM® FlightTracker, AIRCOM® FlightPlanner and SITA’s global IP network.
SITA implemented the integrated, nose‑to‑tail solution—connecting cockpit and operations with ground systems and a Germany‑based passenger services system—within 16 weeks before launch. The deployment enabled live cloud messaging, continuous flight tracking and computerized flight planning, helping Vistara reduce operational costs, improve on‑time performance and turnaround times, lower fuel use and scale to support growth; Vistara reached one million passengers within 11 months and now operates 500 weekly frequencies to 18 domestic destinations.
