A SITA Case Study

Preview of the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited Case Study

Taking Zambia Airports Into The Future

Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL), which operates Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone, needed to modernize its 1950s terminal (then limited to about 250,000 passengers a year) to support rapid tourism growth and meet a tight deadline for the UN World Tourism Organization assembly in 2013. ZACL engaged SITA as master systems integrator, tapping SITA’s Airport MSI expertise and airport IT services to deliver integrated passenger processing, communications and security systems for the new terminal.

SITA delivered a tailored Airport MSI program—including AirportConnect Open (CUPPS), AirportHub, AirportVision FIDS, IP telephony, shared LAN/Wi‑Fi and upgraded CCTV/access control and fire systems—plus integration of third‑party services. Implemented on schedule, the solution increased operational capacity toward the planned 1 million passengers per year, improved passenger information and processing, strengthened security, and enabled ZACL to monetize tenant connectivity, boosting efficiency and overall airport performance.
