Case Study: Air Berlin achieves reliable, cost-effective airport IP connectivity with SITA Connect Community DCS (SITA)

A SITA Case Study

Preview of the Air Berlin Case Study

Reliable and affordable IP connectivity at the airport

Air Berlin engaged SITA to address airport connectivity challenges: avoiding long lead times for dedicated IP solutions, simplifying pricing to control costs, future‑proofing infrastructure for new IP applications, and ensuring compatibility with common‑use CUTE/CUSS environments. The airline needed a fast, flexible and predictable way to bring IP services into the terminal without large upfront or ongoing complexity.

SITA implemented SITA Connect Community DCS — a shared, MPLS‑based IP service delivered over the SITA Connect backbone that can be activated within hours or days, with a one‑time installation fee and flat monthly pricing, optional Internet access to predefined URLs, and seasonal 3–6 month connection blocks. The deployment gave Air Berlin predictable, lower‑cost connectivity versus dedicated links, the ability to scale CUTE kiosk capacity on demand, and access to a global footprint (available in 166+ countries and connected to 550+ airports), improving deployment speed, cost control and operational flexibility.
