Leading Airline Company needed a cost‑effective way to offer short‑haul passengers entertainment without installing expensive seat‑back systems or cabin Wi‑Fi, while also reducing the operational burden of paper newspaper and magazine distribution. SITA’s DigitalMedia On the Move was selected to deliver a portable, low‑maintenance content streaming and retail solution that works with passengers’ own devices.

SITA implemented DigitalMedia On the Move using portable SITA routers, the SITA Mobility Platform backend and device apps/SDKs so passengers can browse, stream and purchase newspapers, magazines and movies via local Wi‑Fi. The deployment enables paperless distribution, easy content updates, targeted catalogs and analytics, reducing paper costs and creating ancillary revenue opportunities. Measurable indicators supporting the approach include SITA’s Passenger IT trends survey (2016), which found up to 69% of passengers use devices while waiting and up to 65% would access entertainment on their own device.
