ILS uses SITA to digitize aircraft parts with blockchain-backed traceability

ILS, a provider of a digital marketplace and business intelligence services for aerospace parts, faced the industry-wide challenge of tracking aircraft spare parts through a largely manual and paper-based process. This inefficiency increased risk and cost for aftermarket buyers and sellers. To address this, ILS partnered with vendor SITA to leverage its MRO Blockchain solution, aiming to bring transparency and digitization to the supply chain.

SITA implemented a blockchain-based digital passport solution that provides back-to-birth traceability for serialized parts, which was integrated directly into the ILS digital marketplace. This solution safeguards asset value, accelerates transactions, and creates a trusted buying experience by making parts' legitimacy and history transparent. According to PwC estimates cited by SITA, the use of such blockchain technology could cut global MRO costs by approximately 5%, or US$3.5 billion.
