A SITA Case Study
Air Berlin, Germany’s second-largest airline and the seventh-largest in Europe in 2012 with about 33 million passengers across 150 destinations in 40 countries, needed to future‑proof its IT and communications infrastructure to support rapid route expansion while keeping costs under control. To meet these growth and cost‑efficiency requirements, Air Berlin selected SITA and its SITA Express IP service.
SITA deployed SITA Express IP — a shared common‑use IP infrastructure running over SITA’s IP VPN — to connect CUTE workstations and kiosks to Air Berlin’s departure control host, enable on‑demand CUTE/kiosk capacity, and simplify site installation. The solution was rolled out at more than 70 airports in 24 countries, delivered predictable monthly flat‑rate pricing for easier budgeting, and positioned Air Berlin to add or reduce routes quickly as demand changes, with SITA able to connect them rapidly wherever they expand.
