A SITA Case Study
The Airports Authority of India faced rapidly rising passenger volumes (forecast >8% annual growth) and inefficient use of airport space caused by dedicated airline check‑in desks, inconsistent processes, limited scalability at smaller airports, and fragmented passenger‑processing systems. To address these challenges, SITA was engaged to deploy its AirportConnect Open common‑use platform (CUTE/CUPPS/CUSS) across Indian airports.
SITA implemented AirportConnect Open so check‑in desks, gates and peripherals can be shared by all airlines and each carrier can load certified applications at any workstation. The deployment delivered greater operational flexibility, improved resource utilization and consistency, lower infrastructure and maintenance costs, and faster technical response through a single provider model; SITA’s platform also supports PCI‑validated payments and future technologies such as self‑boarding. The Airports Authority of India reports the solution enables flexible desk use based on airline needs and passenger profiles and, together with a revenue‑sharing model, positions Indian airports for continued passenger growth.
