Empowering Cathay Pacific To Do More

Cathay Pacific, based in Hong Kong, needed to centralize and modernize its global outstation IT by migrating to a centralized Microsoft Exchange, removing local file and server infrastructure, and ensuring optimal performance for critical WAN applications (including a new Reservations system) while improving software and anti‑virus distribution to over 4,000 PCs. To meet these goals Cathay Pacific engaged SITA, using SITA’s Integrated Traffic Management (ITM) Application Performance solution and SITA ATI Cloud Services.

SITA delivered a managed WAN optimization and cloud hosting solution—deploying Riverbed Steelhead devices in more than 200 locations across 42 countries, leveraging SITA Cloud Data Centers for regional virtual file servers, and providing single‑vendor project management and 24/7 support. The implementation cut WAN traffic by 55% overall (email down 80%, Windows apps down 60%), achieved over 60% data reduction for the reservations application, improved software/anti‑virus distribution for 4,000+ PCs, completed the Exchange migration and enabled ongoing file‑server consolidation.
