Department of Home Affairs, South Africa - Customer Case Study

The Department of Home Affairs, South Africa needed to strengthen border security and speed passenger processing ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup while reducing administrative and repatriation costs. To meet these challenges they selected SITA and its iBorders TravelerData (iBorders® TravelerData InteractiveData) advance passenger processing solution.

SITA implemented iBorders TravelerData in nine months, shifting checks to the point of departure with real‑time passport data exchange at check‑in. In June–July 2010 the system processed over 1.5 million passengers, subjected about 350 to extra examination and prevented more than 60 inadmissible travelers from entering; SITA’s operational support also helped over 80% of airlines reduce administrative and turnaround costs, sped up arrivals processing and avoided repatriation expenses.
