China Eastern, one of China’s largest international airlines and a SkyTeam member, needed a secure, high‑performance global network so staff at outstations could reliably access corporate applications hosted in Shanghai. Facing latency, congestion and security risks from Internet VPNs as it expanded internationally, China Eastern turned to SITA for a managed global IP‑VPN and SITA Network & Application Performance solutions to future‑proof its international IT infrastructure.

SITA delivered a three‑phase managed IP‑VPN rollout (phase 1 including Chicago, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Paris, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo and Shanghai HQ, phase 2 adding 16 more sites) with network optimization and traffic profiling; the project was completed on time and on budget. The SITA solution improved application response times and security, enabled pilots of IP telephony, and scaled provisioning worldwide—supporting China Eastern’s IT growth (from 18 to 230 staff), impacting 25,000 service staff and ultimately benefiting some 50 million passengers.
