Massport sought to reduce long immigration queues and improve passenger flow at Boston Logan International Airport amid rapidly rising international arrivals. As a long-time customer, Massport turned to SITA, deploying its APC kiosks and iBorders® portfolio (alongside existing AirportConnect Open capabilities) to automate passport control and expand self-service processing.
SITA implemented 40 APC kiosks as part of its end-to-end iBorders® solution, with proactive monitoring, biometric verification and support services to ensure high availability. The results: despite a 23% increase in traveler volume, average wait times fell by nearly 5 minutes (19%), and automated processing rose to 43% via APC (plus 5% Global Entry), up from about 3% in 2014—demonstrating SITA’s measurable impact on efficiency and security.
