A SITA Case Study
Commercial Service Airport, a busy West Coast USA commercial service airport processing over eight million passengers a year, struggled with growing congestion and inconsistent audible communications—inaudible or irrelevant announcements, high administration and support costs, poor accessibility for hearing and visually impaired passengers, and uneven volume and sound quality. To address these challenges the airport deployed SITA’s SITA Public Address System as part of a terminal modernization program.
SITA implemented a zoned, software-based PA that integrates with FIDS for simultaneous audio and visual messaging, uses ambient sensing to auto-adjust speaker volume, and supports automated event-triggered and pre-boarding announcements. The solution includes 400+ speaker circuits, 100+ touch-screen paging stations, intrinsic redundancy with PAMF-16 backup amplifiers and 24/7 diagnostics/support. SITA’s system saved eight hours per 150 flights by automating three-minute announcements, improved passenger flow and reduced queues, provided equal access for disabled passengers, and was approved by the local fire marshal as a secondary life‑safety system.
