A Sintelix Case Study
IP Australia, the Australian government agency responsible for intellectual property rights, faced the challenge of making 390,000 historical patent documents searchable. These records, some over 100 years old, had little to no metadata. They engaged Sintelix to use its information extraction capabilities to capture bibliographic fields from these OCR-converted documents.
Sintelix implemented a solution that extracted and normalized data from the documents, creating 390,000 XML files with metadata. The project was completed in just six weeks, achieving a 99.7% field accuracy rate and a tenfold reduction in error rates. This allowed IP Australia to successfully place the metadata back into its databases, making the historical records fully accessible and searchable for its clients.
