Nino Salvaggio Achieves Big Benefits with SICOM Encounter Kiosks

Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace, a Metro Detroit specialty grocery chain with three locations, needed a better way to handle busy deli periods without forcing customers to wait in long lines. In 2008, the company turned to SICOM Systems and its SICOM Encounter™ Kiosk self-order solution to let shoppers place deli orders quickly and continue browsing the store.

SICOM Systems implemented the Encounter Kiosk across all three stores, adding touchscreen self-ordering, online and mobile ordering, status monitors, and text notifications for completed orders. The results were strong: deli orders placed through the kiosks grew from more than 70,000 in 2008 to 82,000 in 2013, while online/mobile orders increased from a few hundred to 16,000. Ticket averages also rose, with kiosk orders up nearly 5% and online orders up 11% between 2012 and 2013, helping boost deli throughput, sales, and overall shopping convenience.
