A SHL Case Study
Sonic Automotive, the fourth-largest U.S. car retailer and a Fortune 500 company, needed to shift from a traditional sales approach to a customer-centric model. To support “One Sonic, One Experience,” the company partnered with SHL and sought a hiring process that could better identify candidates who were strong listeners, customer advocates, and likely to stay with the company.
SHL helped Sonic Automotive design and roll out weighted pre-hire assessments for skills, competencies, and company fit, mapped to key Sonic roles. The new process improved hiring quality and efficiency, with high scorers selling 48 more cars per year on average, contributing to a projected $79 million in annual revenue, reducing time to hire from nearly 100 days to under 70, and helping lower turnover to 1.5% among recent hires, while also earning an NPS above 80 from candidates.
