A SHL Case Study
The Superior Court of California, County of Riverside partnered with SHL to address a growing leadership gap caused by budget cuts, downsizing, increased workloads, and an aging workforce. With a need to identify and develop future leaders for a flatter organizational structure, the court was struggling to build a strong succession pipeline and retain high-potential employees.
SHL implemented its high-potential (HIPO) solution, using competency reviews and assessments of 200 supervisors and leaders to identify employees with the ability, aspiration, and engagement for future leadership roles. SHL then supported development through its Development Coach program, helping the court accelerate leadership growth in the flow of work; a year later, high-potentials showed stronger leadership ratings, better projected career progression, improved retention, and a stronger, lower-risk leadership pipeline.
