Community Health Systems (CHS) is one of the largest hospital operators in the U.S., with roughly 120–127 hospitals across 20 states and about 120,000 employees. CHS relied on manual, hospital-by-hospital spreadsheets for software inventory, leaving data incomplete and out of date, exposing the organization to costly, time-consuming vendor audits, compliance risk, and overpaid licenses.

CHS deployed ServiceNow Software Asset Management, partnering with KPMG, to consolidate and automate license discovery and tracking into a single-pane view — now automatically tracking about 95% of software assets. The new approach delivered millions in hard-dollar savings, uncovered 19,000 instances of license overlap, improved audit readiness and vendor negotiations, and cut license true-up costs by about 40%.
