Utah Water Conservancy District Reduces Outdoor Water Use with Sensus Solution

The Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, a water provider in Utah, faced the challenge of reducing excessive outdoor water use among its customers. With a flat fee structure, customers had no incentive to conserve, and the district lacked a way to meter this non-potable "secondary" water. To address this, they partnered with Sensus to implement an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solution.

Sensus deployed its FlexNet communication network and iPERL water meters to provide accurate, real-time data on water consumption. This allowed the district to give customers insight into their outdoor usage. The solution was highly successful, surprising 75% of customers with their high usage and leading to a significant reduction in water consumption. The Sensus system helped Weber Basin achieve an estimated 40% reduction in outdoor water use, resulting in major cost savings and promoting greater conservation.
