Texas Co-op Migrates from Power Line Carrier System to Sensus Next-Generation AMI

Comanche Electric Cooperative, a utility serving a vast and rugged Texas landscape, faced challenges with its aging power line carrier (PLC) system. The outdated infrastructure caused power quality issues and made collecting data from over 17,000 meters inefficient and time-consuming. The cooperative needed to transition to a next-generation AMI system to improve operations and better serve its members.

Comanche implemented an AMI solution from Sensus, utilizing smart meters on the Sensus FlexNet communication network. This provided real-time data, which streamlined outage management and improved customer service. The solution also added advanced capabilities like remote meter disconnects, freeing up staff time and increasing operational efficiency. The Sensus system enabled a strategic, seamless transition over two years without disrupting service and future-proofed the co-op for new smart technologies.
