The Little Egg Harbor Municipal Utilities Authority faced a significant challenge protecting its customers, many of whom are seasonal residents, from the costly damage caused by undetected leaks and burst pipes in their often-unoccupied homes. To improve customer service and operational efficiency, the utility turned to Sensus and its FlexNet communication network for a solution.
By implementing the Sensus FlexNet system, the authority gained the ability to monitor all 9,000 of its water meters 24/7. The solution analyzes consumption data to identify abnormalities and instantly alert customers via text, email, or phone call, enabling them to address issues like a running toilet before they lead to exorbitant bills or major damage. Furthermore, Sensus technology proved critical during disaster recovery after Superstorm Sandy, allowing the utility to prioritize meter replacements and maintain clear communication, which significantly built trust and demonstrated proactive customer care.
