A Sensus Case Study
Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative, a utility serving a rural Ohio community, faced the challenge of transitioning from an aging power line carrier system to establish reliable communication for new distribution equipment. The goal was to improve service reliability across their expansive service area of ten counties. The co-op selected Sensus to address these transmission issues and modernize their operations.
The Sensus solution involved deploying a FlexNet communication network to support their Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Distribution Automation (DA) systems. This implementation had an immediate and measurable impact, increasing automated meter reads from one per month to 3,000 per month. For Sensus, the results included minimized outages, significantly reduced truck rolls, cost savings from optimized energy purchasing, and an enhanced ability to quickly respond to member needs.
