Fountain Valley, California Beats Water Reduction Goal with Sensus Technology

The City of Fountain Valley's Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) faced the challenge of managing cyclical water shortages and preparing for significant future population growth, all while needing to improve operational efficiency. To address this, they partnered with Sensus to implement a smart utility network, including the Sensus FlexNet communication system and iPERL and OMNI meters, to enable remote monitoring and enhance customer service.

By deploying the Sensus solution, EMWD significantly streamlined its operations. The utility reduced its meter management staff from 16 to just four employees, reassigning personnel to other projects. The remote capabilities proved invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic for maintaining social distancing. Furthermore, Sensus technology improved leak detection, proactively helping over 54,000 customers with continuous usage issues and supporting the district's achievement of nearly 100 percent beneficial reuse of its recycled water.
