Eastern Municipal Water District Improves Meter Read Accuracy

Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD), a major water agency in California, faced the challenge of manually reading 148,000 meters across a large service area. This process was time-consuming and resulted in insufficient data, limiting their ability to provide proactive customer service and help consumers conserve water during a severe drought. To address this, they turned to the vendor Sensus for a solution.

EMWD implemented the Sensus FlexNet communication network. This system enabled remote meter reading, which improved data accuracy and operational efficiency. The results were significant: over 2,300 previously identified leaks were resolved after customers were alerted. The solution also prevented the need to hire eight additional staff members and empowered customers to manage their water usage more effectively, contributing to major conservation efforts. Sensus provided the technology that equipped EMWD for sustainable future growth.
