Dickson Electric System, a utility serving over 36,000 customers in Tennessee, faced a challenge in improving its power outage response and restoration time. The utility relied on customer calls to identify outages, which was inefficient and made it difficult to gauge the scale of an event, especially after destructive ice storms. To address this, they partnered with Sensus for a better solution.
Dickson Electric implemented an AMI solution from Sensus, which included the FlexNet communication network. This system automated data collection to precisely pinpoint outage locations. As a result, the Sensus solution dramatically reduced power outage response times, saving the utility significant operational costs associated with dispatching trucks to investigate.
