City of Fairmont Improves Performance and Service with the Sensus AMI Solution

The City of Fairmont Utilities faced challenges with non-revenue water loss and an inefficient billing management process due to its legacy metering system, which required manual readings. This was particularly strained by high tenant turnover from local universities. The utility partnered with Sensus to implement an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution to monitor consumption and improve accuracy.

Sensus deployed a smart water network utilizing iPERL residential meters, OMNI commercial meters, and its FlexNet communication network. The solution provided immediate benefits, achieving over 99% meter reading accuracy and saving $30,000 annually. Furthermore, Sensus technology helped reduce excess water consumption by 25 million gallons per year by identifying leaks for nearly 3,000 customers.
