A Sendbird Case Study
Reddit, the community-driven platform used by hundreds of millions of people, wanted to add real-time chat to strengthen its communities and deepen engagement. To move quickly and focus on user experience rather than building messaging infrastructure from scratch, Reddit chose Sendbird’s chat API and backend messaging service.
With Sendbird, Reddit launched chat across general rooms, subreddit-specific rooms, and one-on-one conversations, with features like typing indicators, read receipts, cross-device sync, moderation tools, and spam protection. The result was higher user engagement, conversion, and retention, while helping more users move from passive participation to active, ongoing conversation.
