Small-Market Radio Stations Drive $5K with Bathroom Makeover Contest

WKDZ, a pair of small-market Kentucky radio stations, wanted to use digital promotions to drive web traffic, engage listeners, and generate revenue. To do that, they worked with Second Street Lab on a user-generated-content “Ugly Bathroom Makeover Contest” built around a bathroom makeover prize and a group of local sponsors.

Second Street Lab helped WKDZ run the contest with category-exclusive advertisers, on-air and digital promotion, social media, email, and voting rounds that built excitement and participation. The campaign produced $5,000 in sponsorship revenue, 29 submissions, 8,681 votes from 1,935 users, and advertisers reported increased sales in the two months after the promotion.
