Pro Football Pick’em Scores $125K for the State Journal-Register

State Journal-Register, the smallest daily in Springfield, Illinois, wanted to generate more football-related revenue than ever and needed a stronger sponsorship package for its Pro Football Pick’em contest. Working with Second Street Lab, the paper used the Marty Carry Pro Football Contest Model and added new advertiser VIP picks, media-panel competition, and weekly reader recognition to boost engagement.

Second Street Lab helped State Journal-Register package the contest as an integrated print-and-online promotion, supported by a 23-week ad run and sales incentives for staff. The result was more than 20 sponsors and advertisers and $125,000 in revenue, the newspaper’s highest total ever.
