Amtrak, the U.S. passenger rail service with about 20,000 employees and roughly 2,500 annual hires, launched its MyCareerTrak initiative to make talent management a strategic priority and move from manager-held, siloed talent practices to organization-wide accountability. To support a shift to pay-for-performance, better succession planning, and faster hiring, Amtrak chose SAP SuccessFactors to complement its existing SAP ERP HCM platform.

Using SAP SuccessFactors (Performance & Goals, Recruiting, Succession Planning, Workforce Planning, Workforce Analytics, and Compensation), Amtrak implemented a scalable talent-management and analytics suite in 16 months. SAP SuccessFactors enabled advanced workforce analytics (succession-risk forecasting, retirement projections), consistent panel-based hiring and targeted behavioral selection, and a dramatically shorter time-to-hire (examples include moves from months to same-day/24-hour offers), giving Amtrak organizational control of talent and measurable improvements in hiring speed and workforce planning.
